My top 15 favorite podcasts by category
In my latest blog post, I mentioned I would get back to you on my podcast suggestions. Here we are!
I was super late to the podcast party. It all started because my ex was listening to a podcast about the lore of World of Warcraft, back in 2016. Now, I follow very specific ones, so it takes me some time when people suggest new podcasts.
Disclaimer: you will see that I listen to a lot of podcasts about true crime and cults. For some reason, it helps me deal with my crippling anxiety. Don’t ask; even my therapist was surprised to hear that…!
First, I listen to podcasts on the Stitcher app. However, I know that you can find them on Spotify, on Google Play Music, and on Apple Podcasts.
Now, let’s get to it!
SOCIETY AND CULTURE
The Mo’ Money Podcast, with Jessica Moorhouse
I have to give a big shoutout to Jessica for her blog and her podcast. She is absolutely a role model for me, and her podcast helped me a lot with fixing my finances and getting my life together when it comes to investing in your future. She is a millennial money expert, a speaker, and an Accredited Financial Counselor in Canada, so that makes her a very reliable resource in that domain, and she always has super interesting guests on her show.

At Home with Linda and Drew Scott
I am a HUGE fan of Property Brothers, so when I heard that Drew Scott and his lovely wife Linda launched their podcast early January 2020, I binge-listened to it for 2 days straight! It’s a cozy podcast where they discuss design, but mostly life in general with their awesome guests.

COMEDY
Dumb People Town, with Daniel Van Kirk, Randy Sklar, and Jason Sklar
Sometimes, you need to stop worrying about the fast-paced world we live in, and just need a good laugh. Well, this podcast laughs about stupid things people did. The hosts discuss with guests every episode, and it’s hilarious.

My Favorite Murder, with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark
This is the first podcast I started listening to, after Lore Watch. It felt good to see that I wasn’t the only weirdo who LOVES hearing about murder stories and that I’m not the only anxious and depressed lady out there.

Small Town Murder, with James Pietragallo and Jimmie Whisman
If you like to deal with horrible crimes through comedy and don’t think that it’s sacrilegious to laugh about it (NEVER about the victim), you will like Small Town Murder.

VIDEO GAMES AND POP CULTURE
Lore Watch Podcast, with Anne Stickney, Matthew Rossi and Joe Perez
If you like World of Warcraft, whether you’re still playing or not, you should like this. The podcast is about the lore in Blizzard games, mostly World of Warcraft, and it made me realize just how cool this universe really is. There is so much more to it than following the quest arrow. Even without playing, it’s very interesting to hear them discuss and debate.

Dames and Dragons
This is a comedy podcast where 4 ladies play Dungeons & Dragons for the first time ever. This is super cool, and I hope it’ll get more ladies to get interested in this game.

The 404 Podcast, with Jonathan Lemonde and Deshawn Harry
This one is a bit more delicate because this is my ex’s podcast. They have stopped since I left, but I hope they will get back to it someday. I really enjoyed listening to the hosts talking about video games, technology, and pop culture, and I’m still proud of them for doing it.

TRUE CRIME AND CULTS (this will be a very long list, bear with me!!!)
Forensic Files
If, like me, you’re obsessed with the show and binge-watched it 3 times, you will love this one. The voice of the narrator is simply soothing my soul and helps me to sleep…!

Heaven’s Gate, with Glynn Washington
This podcast is absolutely fascinating. Heaven’s Gate is a religious cult. In 1997, members of the cult committed mass suicide; 39 bodies were found. The host grew up in a cult and tells the story about this cult, and sometimes we get snippets about the cult he grew up with.

The Gateway, with Jennings Brown
This podcast is about Teal Swan, a modern spiritual guru who, through her YouTube videos, targets depressed and suicidal people, especially the younger generations.

Broken Harts, with Justine Harman, Elisabeth Egan, and Lauren Smiley
This is one of the most heartbreaking podcasts I’ve listened to. This is the story about a picture-perfect family, composed of 2 moms and their six adopted children, who were killed when the mom drove off a cliff. I don’t recommend binge-listening to this one; take it slowly. I’m telling you, it broke my heart.

Happy Face, with Melissa Moore
This documentary is about Melissa Moore, the daughter of Keith Hunter Jesperson, a serial killer. It is very interesting to hear her perspective about this, and how the horrendous acts of murderers affect not only the victims’ families but their very own family.

Dr Death, with Laura Beil
This is a podcast about Christopher Duntsch, a neurosurgeon who claimed to be the best in spine surgery. 33 patients later and an ongoing lawsuit, we discover how this person managed to charm his way into medicine and caused so many serious troubles to so many people.

Disgraceland, with Jake Brennan
In this podcast, the host talks about true crime and death in the world of Fame. From the death of Tupac Shakur to Amy Winehouse, we discover the dark side of celebrities’ not-so glamourous lives.

That was a long list! Do I listen to each and every podcast listed here? Yes! However, some of them are a series of a certain number of episodes, then nothing more happens. These days, I mostly listen to The Mo’Money Podcast, At Home with Linda and Drew Scott, and Small Town Murder.

This is a great list of podcasts worth listening to. The Mo’ Money Podcast is right up my alley, which I’m sure I will enjoy. At the moment, I’m only listening to one podcast called Philosophize This by Sam West. I love that it helps me think outside the box.
Corinne
by Stephen West, not Sam West! 😀
